The Durham Collective is a distinguished hospitality company branded in historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania; offering refined event spaces alongside exhibit galleries, as well as a collection of locally authentic getaways extending into Maine, Florida, and Virginia. Driven by a passion for history, the Collective has a specific interest in historical homes and is dedicated to the preservation of the home's history.
After learning some of the history of the Felix Hull House, the Durham Collective assumed stewardship of the Felix Hull House in 2024 with a long-term vision of thoughtful restoration and community integration.
The Felix Hull House, located in McDowell, Virginia, is an antebellum era home that was occupied by both Union and Confederate generals of the Civil War in 1862 during and after the Battle of McDowell. Today, the home stands largely untouched, offering a rare and honest glimpse into the past…its structure, details, and presence preserved as time has left them.
At this stage, the focus has not been renovation, but respectful preservation. In preparation for Highland County's Maple Festival the Felix Hull House is being readied for public viewing of the space so guests can engage directly with the history of the home and the stories embedded within it's walls. The open house is intended as an introduction - inviting the community and visitors alike to connect with the house, in it's current stands and to understand its historical significance before any changes are made.

The founder of the Durham Collective is a descendant of the Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson family, making this stewardship deeply personal. Her lineage has fostered a lifelong interest in the Civil War and in figures such as Jackson, whose legacy remains closely tied to the history of the Shenandoah Valley and the surrounding region. That connection has helped shape a careful, reverent approach to preserving sites of the era - not as monuments, but as places of understanding and reflection.
